International Business Mediation

Mediation is an informal procedure, a "business talk". The mediator's position is processoriented. Thus, he or she can help business partners to avoid and resolve conflict in a collaborative and non-hostile way, since settlements are virtually negotiated by the so-called disputants themselves.

Mediation as a conflict resolutin strategy seems to be particularly effective for settling disputes between small- and medium size businesses who have to watch costs.
Unawareness of the other's perspective is frequently at the core of the problem, especially, if both parties are not sufficiently familiar with the cultural background and corporate culture of the other side and pay no attention to how this may affect communication. Business mediation helps to minimize those misunderstandings. Mediation sets in when cooperation between business partners remains desirable.

The mediator observes, channels, helps and assists - but, crucially, does not make decisions. The decision remains entirely in the hands of both of the parties involved.
